Growth spurts occur at different times for different people, creating another challenge. Girls typically experience their growth spurt earlier than boys, often between ages 10 and 14. Boys usually have their growth spurts between ages 14 and 17. Being on either end of the timing spectrum can cause added stress of standing out among peers.

Those who mature early may receive unwanted attention or feel pressured to act older than they are. Late bloomers might feel left behind or worry that something is wrong with them.
