Why babyhood matters as a developmental stage
Babyhood is far more than just the beginning of life. It’s a critical window when the most intensive physical and neurological development occurs. From birth to about age two years, children grow rapidly, with changes happening so quickly that parents often marvel at how different their baby looks from one month to the next. This rapid growth period also marks a steady decrease in dependency as babies develop the physical capabilities to interact with their environment.

Synaptic growth and pruning
During the first two years, the brain produces far more synapses than it will ultimately need. This overproduction allows the brain to be highly adaptable to the specific environment each child experiences.
